Abstract
Multiple pathogens threaten wheat production in Australia. The wheat breeding programs of the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT) and the International Centre for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) agricultural research centres collaborate with Australian wheat breeders and researchers to introduce and evaluate new sources of yield potential and adaptation to biotic and abiotic stresses as part of the CIMMYT Australia ICARDA Germplasm Evaluation (CAIGE) program. Here we present results from genome-wide association analyses of resistance to multiple wheat pathogens, including: Yellow/Stripe rust (Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici); Septoria tritici blotch (Zymoseptoria tritici); Yellow/Tan spot (Pyrenophora tritici-repentis); and Crown rot (Fusarium culmorum) using CAIGE wheat lines tested in multiple environments in Australia over multiple seasons. Associated genetic markers will enable improved selection of breeding materials from international centres and more efficient integration of novel resistances into Australian wheat breeding programs.
